Since our founding in 1973, the Mauch Chunk Historical Society has been actively involved in giving our past a future.
We preserve and maintain two significant historic buildings in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania: the 1883 Mauch Chunk Opera House and the Marion Hose Company #1. We continue to utilize these structures in their historic role as venues for a variety of entertainment, art and cultural events throughout the year.
Our Mission: With the support of our members, benefactors, and partners the Mauch Chunk Historical Society preserves and interprets our region's history by providing a focal point for culture, entertainment and the arts in our community to enrich the lives of current and future generations of residents and visitors.
It is only through the support of our members, benefactors, and partners that we can continue our mission of preservation, conservation and utilization.
If you are one of those special individuals who have a passion for the past, we invite you to join us and become a fellow curator of Mauch Chunk history.
Jim Thorpe is an enchanting place located in a vortex along the Lehigh River Gorge. The area was sacred to the Native Americans who once lived here.
Our captivating town is the southwestern gateway to the Pocono region of Pennsylvania.
